Macbook Pro Keyboard Double and Triple typing character

My Keyboard is double typing the characters "e", "a", "d", but mostly "e". This is an issue that just started after upgrading to Mojave. I am now using BigSur. I have tried adjusting the key repeat and delay settings, but it doesn't do anything to solve the issue. I am using a 2017 MacBook Pro that I purchased in 2018. Any suggestions appreciated. Restarting/rebooting has not fixed the issue either.

Hello juliet53,

We want to help make sure the keyboard issue is resolved; we're glad you're reaching back out with this information.

As the issue remains after taking those steps, we'll want to further isolate the cause.

You'll want to try testing the issue in safe mode and macOS Recovery next.

This Apple Support page has the steps to help you start using safe mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Once you're in macOS Recovery, you can click the Get Help Online option to test the keyboard.

This link has the steps: Use macOS Recovery on an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support

These steps will help isolate the issue to hardware or software related, we’ll proceed accordingly.

Cheers!

Hello juliet53,

Thanks for reaching out using Apple Support Communities!

We understand you're having an issue with a few keys on the keyboard; we're happy to help resolve this.

To learn more, does this happen across all apps, or only certain ones? Do you notice that the keys feel different compared to the others? Is there any damage to the Mac or keyboard?

This Apple Support page has some steps to take for this issue: If your Mac doesn’t respond to key presses - Apple Support

There are some additional steps on this Apple Support page: If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't working with your Mac as expected - Apple Support

You can also test the issue in a new user account if the issue seems software related.

This should help isolate the issue further so we can eliminate it and get the keyboard back to normal.

Cheers!

Yes, this does occur in every app that involves typing (Google Chrome, Notepad, Mail, etc.). The keys all feel the same when I use them. The only damage to the Mac is a small dent on the screen on the right side, but it has been there for years and never caused an issue. Not sure if it matters, but I have a built-in German QWERTZ keyboard instead of the standard American QWERTY keyboard. I've also checked those links you sent, and none of them apply and/or didn't work.
