What happens with Quicktime files that do not get saved to ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX/Data/Library/Autosave Information/ ? Do they get lost?

Hello:

I attempted to record sound using quicktime knowing the process may end once the laptop run out of memory (126 gb in an ssd), and I was ok with that. After 4 hours, I went to turn the recorder off. Knowing Quick time has difficulties saving recordings of over an hour, and also knowing I can retrieve recordings that have not been fully processed from ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX/Data/Library/Autosave Information/ , I did not worry too much. I also knew I needed to open the package contents to obtain the sound file and play it in quicktime again.

However, to my big disappointment, when I went to the autosave information folder, the recording was not there at all! It was empty! So is quicktime an all-or-nothing recording device? does it record up to the point it runs out of memory and then, it stops recording, or if it cannot continue recording, it simply shuts off and does not save even a portion of that recording? Where can I find whatever was recorded up to the point it shut off?

Thanks!

in the past, whenever i attempted a screen recording (cmd+shift+5) that turned out to exceed 16GB and the selected save location was set to anything other than "desktop" i would get the "your screen recording can't be saved. error saving recording." ever since i first encountered that issue, i now save screen recordings to the desktop first and then transfer them to the disk i want to put them on. since i started using this method, i haven't had an issue saving any of my recordings. this applies to both audio, and audio/video recordings.
