Intermittent Shutdown Problem on iMac 2017

When I attempt to shutdown the iMac at the end of the day, it refuses most of the time. Sometimes it does what it's supposed to but most of the time, all the apps and notifications disappear and then it sits on the wallpaper for about 5 minutes, then reboots. I did not have this problem while running Mojave. It started after upgrading to Catalina and is now behaving the same in Big Sur. I had to clean out all the 32bit applications going to Catalina, which I did. I also had some files left in my Trash when I upgraded to Big Sur that I couldn't delete until I had help from Old Toad who suggested that I turn off SIP and then try deleting them.

Anyway, I would like to have the iMac shutdown when I choose instead of when it wants to...

Thanks

The best antivirus, cleaning app, and overall maintenance app for Mac OS is Mac OS itself. All you need to do with Mac OS to keep it secure and running well is to keep it up-to-date and do periodic (about 1x per week) restarts. Other than that, leave it alone. Adding third party antivirus, cleaning, security and other types of maintenance apps to Mac OS adds no additional level of security. The only thing these apps do is have the opposite affect users want. They make Mac OS slow, unstable, generate odd behavior (much like you are experiencing) and make Mac OS appear buggy.

Please locate the developers uninstall instructions for CleanMyMac & CLAMXAV and follow to the letter. Then restart in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac and then restart normally.

Also, please navigate to Adobe.com and locate the uninstall instructions for Adobe Flash. Adobe discontinued Flash and you have a possible security issue leaving it installed.

Finally, please ensure all of your third party apps are up-to-date. Your report indicates you are getting Kernel Panics caused by software. The very likely is due to out of date third party apps.
