How to mark a large number of unread gmail messages as read
How can I mark a large number (50k +) of unread gmail messages as read in AppleMail?
Please spare me the lectures, I know it’s a lot.

Here’s how I solved it. Again this is for gmail. The AppleMail app doesn’t seem to provide the functionality. So I used a browser to login to gmail. In the browser interface you can select all, be sure to pay attention to the dialogs. The select all, only selects the current page, I had a sub-dialogue ask if I wanted to select all 63,000 or so messages. I click that and then found the mark as read option under a menu marked with three vertical dots. The interface will ask for confirmation and present a post action option to undo after it completes the request.
After this, AppleMail will pickup on the new status after a refresh (or two).
This is clearly a work around, but it did work and was logical.
