Translate on iOS 14

Why has Translation feature never worked on my iPhone XR?

Edited:

I just tried invoking Siri for a translation and it worked! However, when I then tried using Translate by simply opening the app, I received again the dreaded message "Translation unavailable. Check back later."

Thank you, SravanKrA, for your response.

I have read both articles several times. I have invoked Translate while I am connected to the internet and sometimes even when connected to power.

Opening the app, if I tap the microphone icon, I immediately get the message, "Translation Unavailable Translation is unavailable at the moment. Try again at a later time." If I tap on "Enter Text," then when I have typed the text on the keyboard and tap on Go, I receive the "Translation Unavailable..." message.

But if I invoke Siri, it will translate both a word and a sentence into French and vice versa.

I would guess I have checked or unchecked some instruction somewhere, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out where or what.

Probably you may not be connected to the internet

How to download languages to use offline

To translate without an internet connection, you can download languages to your iPhone. Here’s how:

  1. Open Translate, then tap a language box at the top.
  2. Scroll down until you see Available Offline Languages.
  3. Tap the download icon  next to the language.
  4. Tap Done.

When you download a language to use offline, it might take up space on your iPhone. You can remove a downloaded language whenever you want. Repeat steps 1-2, then swipe left over the language and tap Delete.
