Unable to authorize voicemail access

I just got the iPhone 12 and I tried to set up my voicemail. I put in my preferred password and confirmed it, only to get a message that it was unable to authorize my voicemail access. I am on AT&T if you want to know!

Voice Mail (Visual or Normal) all are Carrier Specific features. Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider), the agency that issued the SIM / eSIM to you.
