Is anyone else having trouble getting the Mail program to allow AT&T email? I'm trying to set it up on my Mom's computer, new computer, iphone, iPad--you name it, and am constantly getting an error (it's not the password). I'm not sure what is going on here, but surely others have had this issue.

Yes, I just started getting a Login error message and can no longer either send or receive messages through Mail. I have had my e-address for many years and have not changed anything recently. When I called AT&T yesterday, the woman tried to get me to switch to a Webmail program; I got frustrated and ended the phone call. Not sure what to do now, as Apple seems to want me to either ask AT&T or close and then reopen the account, which I am afraid to do at this point. Help!
The root of the problem is that the servers used for legacy AT&T email accounts are garbage. They were originally part of the Yahoo mail system before Yahoo disintegrated and was sold off piecemeal.
Their servers get out of sync, making it impossible to log in from some, but not all devices, until they magically sync back up hours, days, or weeks later.
You will have to work with AT&T, wait for the problem to solve itself, and/or set up email somewhere else.
Their mail system is garbage. Set up a free account somewhere else. Outlook.com, gmail, take your pick. (Yahoo is also garbage by the way.)
You should try WebMail in a Browser as a test & for interim use until we figure this out...
