Remove the passcode on my old ipad 2

I'm trying to repurpose my wife's old ipad 2 and she cannot remember the passcode. How can I remove it?

First:

If you forgot the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled - Apple Support

Then:

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Bear in mind the iPad 2 was released by Apple ten years ago and cannot update iOS beyond version 9.3.5.
