I have created a new user and afterwards delete the user. It seems System Preferences are struggling to delete the user and now I am not able to quit system preferences. It keeps on giving me the following message: Users & Groups preferences is removing a user account and saving the Home directory to a disk image.
Please assist, how can I proceed?

Try Restating in Safe Mode - Shift - Immediately at restart. It does a Repair Disk, clear cache files and only Loads Apple Software and Fonts. So it will load very slowly - Normal.

It sounds like you chose to save the users directory. Wait till it finishes and try again.
It is now more than a week. I think it is not responding.
