Hello,
I have a mid-2014 iMac and a 2020 MacBook Pro. I recently bought lightning cables in order to use my iMac as a dual monitor for my MacBook only to find out you can’t do this with the newer macbooks.
Does anyone have any way I can use my iMac as a dual screen? Open to any suggestions such as apps etc.

Sorry, no. This is not possible. It is best to get an external display, such as one from LG or HP.
