Apple Carplay

So I just bought a new car and I have been trying to set up apple carplay. I had someone try the anddoid auto and it worked right away but for some reason when i plug in my cord, it says that i need to plug in a usb. When Iplug it in, it charges my phone and plays music, but won’t connect to my car through usb in order to connect and my car won’t even pop up on my phone. I know it doesn’t have anything to do with the actual usb port in my car because android auto worked
