Hi Vansandt,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. Here are a few links to help troubleshoot the issue you are having with the DNS error and accessing websites:
If this is an overall issue with connecting to the internet for not only your web browser but applications as well, try these steps to help if you're using a Wi-Fi connection: If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi
If this is an issue when using your web browser only, and you are using Safari, check out these user guide pages for more help: If a webpage or link won’t open on Mac, and If you can’t open a website in Safari on Mac. We also would recommend that you Clear your browsing history in Safari on Mac. If you're using a different web browser, please check in with that browser developer on how to clear history.
If the issue remains, let's have you boot up into safe mode. It’s a way to start up your Mac so it performs certain checks, repairs, emptying of system cache, and prevents some software from automatically loading. This will let us know whether issues you’re experiencing are caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up: How to use safe mode on your Mac. Once in safe mode, check to see if the same behavior continues when navigating to your websites. Sometimes safe mode can successfully resolve some issues. With this being said, after testing in safe mode, restart and log in as normal to see if that helps resolve the issue.
You also mentioned that you tried a few steps already. If the issue persists, let us know which steps you tried besides the ones above.
Have a great day.
