Not getting notifications for One Person

We're glad you thought to ask Apple Support Communities about not receiving notifications for one contact in the Messages app. Complete the following steps, testing after each one to see if the issue resolves:

• Be sure the Do Not Disturb feature is not causing this: Use Do Not Disturb on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
• Double check the notification settings to ensure they're set correctly: Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
• Check to ensure your software and apps are updated as software version 14.4 addresses this issue, and 14.4.2 is the current version. To see which software version you have installed, tap Settings > General > About. If an update is needed, be sure to back up your iPhone first:

  • Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
  • Update apps or use automatic downloads
• Check for a carrier update after ensuring 14.4.2 is installed, by tapping Settings > General > About again. If one is available, it will pop-up here to install: Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad
• Tap Settings > Notifications > Messages, then turn off "Notification Grouping". Restart your iPhone, then turn that setting back on.
• Does the issue continue? If so, check your date and time settings by tapping Settings > General > Date & Time. From here, be sure "Set Automatically" is turned on, and the "Time Zone" area shows correct. If changes are made here, restart your iPhone again, then test the notifications.
• If you're using a VPN or security software, temporarily disable or remove those to see if the notifications appear as expected. If so, you'll want to reach out to the app developer, for that app, to look into this more: How to contact an app developer
