Why are my text messages not being backed up

How can I get my text messages to transfer to my new phone. I tried backing the old phone up but it did not transfer or back up

If you have in on your old iPhone

Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Messages: ON

then when you signed in on your new iPhone with the same Apple ID & password,

it will auto sync messages to the new iPhone.

Note: Messages are not part of a backup.
