Pending purchase is gone

I had a pending purchase from late january, due to overspending and i had never added a card to my apple account since before then. But now the purchase says it’s not longer pending, and that it was finalized in early march, but again i never added another card since. If i add a new card now will it charge the card? it looks like it shouldn’t but i don’t know why it no longer says it’s pending, even though i never *knowingly* paid the unpaid purchase.

(note: purchases were spent on a prepaid visa gift card, not a card connected to a bank account)
