Is there any way to disable the auto-hide of the menu bar when I use the green button to enlarge an application window to full size?
I don't want to have to drag the app manually by the 4 sides to position it.
I don't want to have to download and pay for an extra app to fix this.

There is no control to suppress the menu bar automatically hiding when switching an application to full screen mode. It is part of the operating system design. If Apple intended otherwise, it would have been fixed since 2011.
The only option is to zoom an app instead of switching to Full Screen. As VikingOSX noted, it is not an issue, it works as Apple intends.
