Make sure your password is still valid and hasn't been changed by going to their webmail site and making sure you can successfully log in there at least.

If that works, I know a lot of people who's accounts through the macOS Mail App are being blocked by AT&T unless they sign up for what's generically called an App-Specific password, or what AT&T refers to as a "Secure mail key". This is essentially a unique password that doesn't affect your main account password, but is a password you must use to connect via the macOS Mail App. I would strongly urge you give that a try if your AT&T webmail works directly (with your normal password).
