I'm getting "Could not restore the iPhone “Jon's iPhone 8” because the password was incorrect."

What password is it looking for? iTunes? Laptop? iPhone?

The password you set to encrypt backups in iTunes.

If you can't remember it, it is impossible to restore that backup.

Luckily, there is no limit on how many tries you can make to figure out what you set it to.

To be clear, I'm swapping phones so I'm restoring an iPhone 8 backup to my new iPhone 12.

You put a password on the backup you made via iTunes.

It may not be the same as any other of your passwords.
