AVI Files Since 2008 I have been able to open AVI files on my MacBook and since updating that is no longer possible. I've tried using VLC and just freezes. QuickTime doesn't even want to play. I've searched online and found suggestions for downloading other software to convert the files, but there seems to be a lot of procedures to follow. When you are not so tech savvy it all looks too much. So frustrating. Simple and easy suggestions most welcome.

Playing AVI's in QuickTime I have an older MacBook Air but I have the new OS Big Sur. I am trying to play large AVI clips from work so I can insert them in a PowerPoint. I am accessing these from my OneDrive however they will not play in QuickTime. I am not sure why since a friend has a MacBook Pro and hers will play when taking the same steps. Any suggestions on how to play and save AVI files to my MacBook Air?

macOS Ventura QuickTime Player can't play AV1 video files? macOS 13.2 QuickTime Player 10.5 (1150.4.1) Open Video File using Codec: av01 Currently Error message: The document “filename.mp4” could not be opened. The file isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player. Expected QuickTime Player should be able to handle AV1 files. Apparently neither M1 nor M2 chip have AV1 support for encoding. Apple doesn't care - fine. But macOS 13 should be able to play an AV1 file with onboard solution. IINA plays the file, but was surprised to find QuickTimePlayer durping on this.

Click here and download VLC. If it doesn't work, you probably can't; AVI is a container, not a format, and some AVIs use codecs not available for macOS.

.avi files are unsupported on QuickTime Player. Convert it to somewhat fikes like .mp4
