Phone deleting imessages

I recently got a new iPhone and since I’ve had it, when I receive a new iMessage, when I open it, the phone deletes all imessages between me and that user (including all of our past imessages sent from my old phone that was imported to this new phone). When I actively have the text app open, any incoming imessages come through fine, but after closing the app, it will delete new incoming and all iMessage history again.

anyone else experience this or have any ideas why!?!?

I have it set to never delete
