Display glass coating flaking?

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro (13" Touch Bar). I've only ever cleaned the screen using a clean, dry microfibre cloth. I noticed yesterday that a few spots have started to develop around the camera area, and they won't go away.

I've read about older MacBook Pro models having issues with the anti-glare coating coming off. Could this be the same issue? This is especially troubling given the amount of time I'm using the camera now.

Make sure to use a good clean microfiber cloth to buff that area to be sure it isn't just a smudge. Recently I've been fooled by some smudges thinking they were areas where the anti-reflective coating had worn away. Maybe even use your finger to see if the blemish changes. Unfortunately I cannot tell for sure from your picture whether the anti-reflective coating is worn or whether those are just smudges that can be cleaned/buffed off.

And yes, I have seen a few 2016 MBPros and even a 2017 laptop have the anti-reflective coating issue. Apple does have a "secret" free repair program for the issue which I believe is available for a 2017 laptop.

FYI, here is the current list of the publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products (some products like your laptop have multiple programs):
