2011 imac v slow - overheating - etrecheck report attached

2011 imac 21.5" upgraded two years ago to 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD with Crucial. All worked fine but started seriously over-heating. Installed MacsFanControl which got the temperature back down, but suspect the damage was done., Since installed heat sync cable too, although that doesn't seem to do anything useful.

Etrecheck showing file system timeout amongst other issues.

before I go and spend £100 on a new SSD for a computer worth £150... thought I would see if there is anything I am missing, or whether I should just go and buy a new imac.

Uninstall AntivirusforMac.app & all Bitdefender files.

Delete these files & restart...

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.mcafee.agent.ma.plist

/Library/McAfee/agent/bin/masvc

/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.mcafee.agent.macompat.plist

Get rid of McAfee as fast as you can.

My company forces us to install McAfee on the company Macs. It is responsible for 90-95% of all the problems the company Mac users experience.

  • server performance issues.
  • system panics
  • consumption of huge amounts of memory, resulting in "Your system has run out of applications memory", and slow performance from constant paging and swapping.
  • blocking some network access

Just say NO!
