Elder/senior friendly

I once bought an Oppo device for my grandma that had an Elder friendly feature that changed the phone home page into just 3 big buttons: contacts, call, and messages.

This unique home page disabled the elder user from doing things like:

  • turning off Bluetooth or wifi
  • turning on airplane mode
  • making accidental calls etc

However, the Oppop device had limits since it only required the elder user to press the home button and it would revert back to the normal display.

Is there anyway we can have this feature for Iphones? Our grandparents need to contact people via viber, whatsapp, facetime etc but it so annoying that no matter how many times we teach them, they still manage to turn on airplane mode.

Can you make a display that would just limit them to a handful of functions?

doli-incapax ~ Apple's Shortcuts app may help... You can create custom shortcuts and add their icons to the Home Screen. So, for example, you could create a shortcut called "Nothing Works!" which would turn off Airplane Mode and turn on Bluetooth & Wi-Fi.

Also the Home Screen can be organized such that only certain apps appear:

Organize the Home Screen and App Library on your iPhone

And widgets can serve as large-size icons to reduce the chance of tapping the wrong app icon:

Use widgets on your iPhone and iPod touch
