No Text Alert Sound When Locked

Ever since the newest update, my phone hasn't been alerting me of my texts when locked (no sound, vibration, or lit up screen). It does work when I'm on my phone though. I do still get banners when my phone is locked -- but I only see them when I pick up my phone, not if it's locked, dark, and sitting right next to me.

Apparently this seems to be an issue, and I have tried many things suggested in various forums: turning it on and off again (always my go-to), making sure do not disturb is off, turning off car play, turning off Bluetooth, changing my banner settings to persistent (aka notification style), changing the notification grouping, and going into notification and turning on always show previews.

Nothing has worked, and I really need that sound for important text alerts.

I appreciate any advice you have to give.
