Two Macs one iCloud.

I have two MacBooks. One for work (MacBook Pro). One for personal use (MacBook Air). Can I get both to back up to iCloud? Because I've tried with no luck so far. Wondering if setting up Family is the easiest way to do this. I would like something where I could use the Files app as well.

Before getting the MacBook Pro, everything synced perfectly on the MacBook Air. This second computer has caused many headaches.

Hi again birdinmalibu,

Since you want to keep your data separate on your Macs, you can use separate iCloud IDs on your Macs to keep them separate. Keep in mind that iCloud will not back up your Mac and is more of an option to sync your files. Learn more about backing up your Mac here: Back up your Mac.

We hope this helps!

Hi there birdinmalibu,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you want to sync data between your work and your personal Mac. You can sync your files from one Mac to the other if you use the same iCloud account for both Macs or if you share your files with your other iCloud ID if they are different. See how to share files here: Use iCloud File Sharing to share folders and documents with other iCloud users.

We hope this helps!
