Keeping Mac's native screen resolution when projector plugged in, but turned off

Hello

I have a bit of a problem with my iMac and projector I'm using. It's iMac 21" Retina 4k 2019 and projector Epson EH-TW5400 which I connect by HDMI cable and a USB-C to HDMI converter. Every time I want to use the projector I plug in the cable into my Mac and turn the projector on, then the Mac screen resolution changes to match the projector. When I turn the projector off, the resolution stays to match the projector and I have to pull the cable out to return to my Mac native resolution.

My question is: is there a way to make my Mac return to its native resolution without having to pull out and in the cable. I mean returning to retina the moment projector turns off.

Thanks,

M

It doesn't really help me, because toggling screen mirroring just makes the (turned off) projector a second display and some windows just go there and I cannot drag them back to the main display, because I don't see them...

Im looking for a solution that would tell my Mac that when the plugged in display is turned off, it shouldn't be recognized at all.

Thanks anyway :)
