setup pop mail account on Macbook air 2020

I wish to setup one of my emails as a pop account and not IMAP. Each time I try to add a new account, it does not give me an option to setup manually and sets it up as an IMAP account which I do not want.

I know all about the advantages of IMAP but in this instance I want a pop account. Is it possible to do this with Big Sur os?

It is possible to create a POP account, but one needs a trick to do it.

You start as if you are creating an IMAP account (you don't see POP as an option), but put in a WRONG password.

After you get the message that the password is wrong, you CAN choose POP.

That's stupid, but that's how you make it. This is not new in Big Sur either; it has been that way in Catalina, and I believe Mojave too, even High Sierra, probably.
