Photos + shared album

Hi, I created a shared album with my family and posted some photos. Then I sorted my photos on my photos app and deleted many but they still appear on the shared album is that normal ? Do I have to sort again my pictures on the shared album ?

Thanks for your replies!

Thanks Brittany for reply but it’s actually the opposite, sorry if I wasn’t very clear.

I added photos to a shared album. But then I wanted to delete some from my personal library AND from the shared album. If I delete the photos from the shared album they indeed are deleted from the shared album but still show up on my library. I thought if I deleted them from my library (this from the cloud) they’d be deleted from the shared album but apparently it doesn’t work ...

i wanted to know if there was a way to delete photos from the library AND the shred album at the same time ? (I’m the owner of the album if that helps)

thank you !

Hello k_et,

It sounds like you deleted photos from a shared album, but the photos are still showing in the album, correct? We'd like to see how we can help.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, did you use the steps outlined in the "Delete from a Shared Album" part of the previous link to delete those photos? How to share albums in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac

"If you're the owner of a shared album, you can delete any photos, videos, or comments from anyone. Subscribers can delete anything that they personally added. Anything you delete is automatically deleted from the album on all your devices and the devices of subscribers.

Any photos that you saved or downloaded from a shared album to your Photos library stay in your library even if the shared album is deleted or the person who created it stops sharing it."

Before deleting any photos, please make sure that you save any photos that you want to keep. More about that under the "Save photos and videos from a shared album" part of the above link.

If shared albums aren't working as expected, the information and steps here may help: If Shared Albums aren't working

Thanks!

Frankly I am a little surprised.

I store all of my photos on the cloud.

When I delete a photo from my library, it says that the photo is deleted from icloud on all of my devices. But apparently not if they still appear on the shared album...

I really don’t understand why.

when I have a “normal” album when I delete a picture from my library, it’s indeed deleted from the album but not when it’s a shared one ..

Because shared albums have different rules in the system. It is shared and not just yours. If you really need to delete those photos, you can easily multi-select photos by going into the album, pressing "select" and swiping across all of the photos you would like to delete. Again, deleting photos in a shared album deletes them for all members of that album.

k_et,

Thanks for letting us know more.

Just to confirm, it sounds like you want to delete photos from iCloud and your device, as well as from the shared album itself, is that right?

If you want to delete photos from a device using iCloud Photos, please check out the "How do I delete photos and videos from a device using iCloud Photos?" part of this link for those steps: Get help with iCloud Photos

If you want to permanently delete photos from your device, the "Delete photos permanently" section of this page outlines that process: Delete photos on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch Prior to going through those steps, be sure to see the "Before you delete" part of the previous link for more details.

Take care!

Thanks again for your reply. :)

Indeed I want to delete photos from iCloud and my device, as well as from the shared album itself. And at the same time !

I did all the steps to delete the pictures from the cloud even permanently but they still appear on the shared album and I don’t understand why...

Does it mean that when you delete a photo from you personal library it still shows on a shared album and you have to go on the shared album to delete again the photo ? It’s not really convenient ..

Yes, because photos on a shared album are no longer stored on your device, so deleting them from the device will not change the shared album. You will have to go through the shared album again to remove the unwanted photos, but doing so will remove those photos for all users, not just you. Unless there is sensitive information or content in those photos, I'm not sure why you would need to delete the photos from the shared album as it does not use any storage on the device due to the photos being stored on the iCloud servers.
