Silencing group texts on Apple Watch

I have the mirror phone setting on but my watch still dings me every time I get a new text in a silenced group text message. Is there any thing to fix this?

Kleavitt,

We appreciate these additional details. Since the option to Hide Alerts stops notifications for a specific group text message, can you tell us if you've selected the option to Hide Alerts for every group text message that you no longer want to receive notifications for? You can check by tapping on each group text message, then tapping the group icon at the top of the thread, then the info button. Here you should be able to see if that individual group text message has Hide Alerts enabled. Please be sure to check every group text message to ensure this is enabled if you no longer want to receive notifications from any group text messages.

If every group text message has Hide Alerts enabled but you're still getting notifications from a group text message, can you tell us if it's isolated to one group text message? Can you also tell us if you're using iMessage or SMS/MMS for the group text message you're noticing this behavior with?

Thanks!

Hello Kleavitt,

We understand you've silenced group text messages on your iPhone, but you still receive notifications on your Apple Watch even though you're using the same notification settings on your Apple Watch by mirroring your iPhone.

To determine why this is happening, can you tell us how you silenced group text messages on your iPhone? If needed, please see how to Leave a group text message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Please note that Hide Alerts stops notifications for a specific group text message, but not for all the messages on your device. You'll still receive all other messages and notifications.

For additional details on how to manage your notifications, please see how to Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

In addition to how you silenced group text messages on your iPhone, can you also tell us if you're using iMessage or SMS/MMS for the group messages you're noticing this behavior with? If needed, please see About iMessage and SMS/MMS.

We'd also recommend making sure you're using iOS version 14.4.2 on your iPhone, as well as watchOS version 7.3.3 on your Apple Watch. If you need to update, please be sure to create a backup prior to doing so. These links can help:

Cheers!

Kleavitt,

Let's try an isolation steps to determine if the issue is isolated to Notifications on your Apple Watch.

We understand you do not get notifications on your iPhone, and that you've enabled Hide Alerts on each individual group text message. We also understand you have Mirror my iPhone enabled to use the same notification settings on your Apple Watch and iPhone.

To determine if this is isolated to your Apple Watch, can you turn off your Apple Watch or not wear it while sending and receiving group text messages to see if you get a notification on your iPhone?

If you get group text message notifications on your iPhone when you're not using your Apple Watch, this tell us it's the notifications rather than your Apple Watch.

Once we're able to determine if this is isolated to notifications not working as expected, we can then determine how to proceed.

Thanks!
