MacBook camera not working: "No video capture devices were found" under System Information
Hi all,
My MacBook Pro camera has quite suddenly stopped working yesterday afternoon. Was using it as normal for video meetings yesterday morning, so I'm very clueless as to what may have happened during the time in between. FaceTime shows: "No Camera Available. To use FaceTime, connect a camera.", Photo Booth: "There is no connected camera." I'm not even able to press accept on any incoming FaceTime calls through my Mac anymore, as it says to connect a camera first.
I've been troubleshooting all night with fixes from all over the forum, to no avail. > About This Mac > System Report > Camera states "No video capture devices were found.", and the green camera indicator light does NOT show either. However, running Apple Diagnostics states that there were no issues found with hardware.
Specs:
2016 MacBook Pro, 13 inch with TouchBar (Model: A1706)
Running MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3
Have tried:
- Restarting the Mac
- Checking camera permissions under Security & Privacy
- Checked that Screen Time was off
- Disconnecting any peripherals, AC Adapter and bluetooth devices
- "sudo killall VDCAssistant" in Terminal & quitting VDCAssistant in Activity Monitor
- (I have no AntiVirus software installed, so did not have to check for restrictions in that area)
- Adding new Admin user and testing from there
- Reset NVRAM/PRAM
- Reset SMC
- Booting up in safe mode (camera still doesn't work in safe mode)
- Running an Apple Hardware Diagnostics test twice (both results show reference code: ADP000; "No issues found.")
- Wiping entire Hard Drive & reinstalling MacOS Big Sur in Recovery Mode
I have tried the above fixes, some multiple times each. None have worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, would really like to avoid paying to get my entire display replaced over a camera that was working perfectly fine hours prior.
