Using I Phone Hotspot with Samsung Smart TV

I have an older model Samsung TV and Home cinema system in my camper. I want to connect it to my I phone hotspot. However the TV is looking for a traditional router (WPA? Or some thing). Is there a way to get it to use the I phone hot spot? At present it searches but cannot fine the hotspot. I am assuming it’s the wrong type of connection?

Anyone help?

I phone 8, latest iOS, UK unlimited data contract.

Thanks

iPhone 8, iOS 14

Hey there Richard,

We'd like to help however we can to get your smart TV connected to your Personal Hotspot.

While you may need to contact Samsung support for this, we'd like to help rule out some possible causes by confirming the following:

  1. You mentioned that when you try, it's looking for a 'traditional router'. What exactly did you mean by this? Is there an error message showing on your TV? The more details you provide, the better equipped we'll be to help.
  2. Did you set up Personal Hotspot in your iPhone using these steps? Here's the link: How to set up a Personal Hotspot on your iPhone or iPad
  3. Are other devices connecting to the Personal Hotspot without any issues?
  4. We also recommend the steps under the section 'If you can't connect to Personal Hotspot with Wi-Fi' here: If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular)

We look forward to hearing back from you about these details. Take care!

Hello Richard,

That's good to hear that other devices have no issues with connecting with your Personal Hotspot.

To answer your new question, no, there wouldn't be an app/setting in your iPhone to mimic a router. The reason there's not is because Personal Hotspot makes a Wi-Fi network itself.

Have you already tried the final step in the last message sent to you? Just in case, you'll want to follow the steps under 'If you can't connect to Personal Hotspot with Wi-Fi' in this link: If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular)

If you already have, and the issue remains, the next step would be to get in touch with Samsung. We believe to have found their support link: Support Home Official Samsung Support US

Have a good one!

Hi,

the hotspot pot works fine with I pad, Mac book pro etc. The Samsung smart tv is looking for a wi if signal and has options like wpa, wpa 2 (these maybe be the wrong sets of letters) type security protocols. It does not see the hotspot?

What i was wondering is if 5ere was an app or a setting heat would get the hotspot to mimic a router?
