my iphone does not sych all messages to my mac book air. How do I change settings?

That is correct. There are two very different types of messages:
- iMessages, sent to/from other Apple devices.
- SMS messages, sent to/from cellular telephones.
Your Mac sends and receives iMessages, if you set it up that way on your Mac. Your Mac is not a cellular telephone, and does not handle SMS messages. Further, there is no way to sync messages between the iPhone and Mac.
You may, if you wish, set up text message forwarding.
