Apple Watch calorie discrepancy?

Has anyone else had this problem? For some reason when I go for a 2 mile run then a 2 mile walk, my watch shows me burning more calories on my walk despite the fact that my heart rate is lower and pace is slower on my walk. Why would this happen?? I’m using the outdoor run and outdoor walk features provided with the watch. Thank you

Hello Sister_ray,

We understand your Apple Watch shows a higher calorie count for walks instead of runs.

This can often happen if your personal information isn't up to date. For steps on how to keep your personal information up to date, please see how to Get the most accurate measurements using your Apple Watch.

We'd also recommend confirming all available software updates have been completed on your Apple Watch and companion iPhone. We've recently released iOS version 14.5, as well as watchOS version 7.4. If an update is needed on your iPhone, please be sure to create a current backup prior to updating. In addition to keeping your devices up to date, please be sure to check for app updates. These links can help:

Once you've updated your personal information, and if needed, updated to the latest versions of iOS and watchOS, we'd recommend using your Apple Watch as you normally would for at least 24-hours to see if you continue to experience the same behavior.

If you do still experience the same behavior, can you tell us if Set Automatically is enabled on your iPhone when you go to Settings > General > Date & Time? Can you also tell us if you've ever changed Set Automatically? If you have, can you tell us why and how often you turn Set Automatically on or off?

Cheers!

Sister_ray,

We want to make sure you're able to track the amount of calories correctly using your Apple Watch. In an attempt to isolate the cause of the issue, and provide you with the best solution, we ask questions to see what you've already attempted, confirm all your devices are up to date, and provide recommendations to help with what you're reporting.

We're happy to continue working with you to determine the best solution. To do so, please provide us with the answers to the questions from either reply.

You can also Contact Apple Support for help with your Apple Watch.

Best Regards!

Sister_ray,

We understand your Apple Watch is still showing a higher calorie count for walks instead of runs.

We've recently released iOS version 14.5.1 and watchOS version 7.4.1. If you've not updated, please be sure to create a current backup prior to doing so.

If you have already updated, can you tell us if you've had a chance to update your personal information, and monitor the calorie count for at least 24-hours to see if you notice a difference?

If you've already updated both devices and your personal information, but you continue to notice a higher calorie count for walks after using your Apple Watch for at least 24-hours, can you tell us if Set Automatically is enabled on your iPhone when you go to Settings > General > Date & Time? Can you also tell us if you've ever changed Set Automatically? If you have, can you tell us why and how often you turn Set Automatically on or off?

Thanks!
