This is a big problem that needs to be fixed ASAP. If I disabled Javascript, the pages with load but not function. I don't want to use another browser because I don't know my passwords to most of my accounts--trying to pay bills is becoming a problem since this issue has been going on for days! APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS!

PS. I also don't want to reinstall MacOS. That's just ridiculous.

Thank you very much jdmcmurtry.

Excellent info. Apple should have fessed up with a 14.1.1 version update, but at least we can see they hid their mistake with BUILD change from xxx.5 to xxx.7.

And yes, Howard's blog has helped me numerous times in the past and it is mind boggling how much time he offers.

Oh, and his free little SilentKnight app is excellent for us wanting to keep track of internal version numbers and firmware changes.

Please read my earlier posts. If I am too specific I violate the restrictions of Apple. My problem with one site occurs in Safari and Firefox only on Catalina 10.15.7. On opening the site the site opens and closes and gives an error, then I have to restart the browser.

No problems with the site on BigSur 11.3.1 in Safari and Firefox, no problems on iPhone iOS 14.5.1 and iPadOS 14.5.1

At first I thought the problems was caused by the Safari update, but the Security Update seems more probable now.

Installed the new build and websites seem to be working fine now. Glad I held off on restoring from time machine. Apple needs to do better to let people know that they F’d up. The support advisor I talked to about this two days ago didn’t have a clue even though the broken safari build had been dropped from the security update.

Try opening System Preferences » Software Update, and then clicking the "Advanced…" button. If that doesn't help, then install Howard Oakley's amazingly helpful "SilentKnight" and "SystHist" utilities, and use them to determine what system updates have already been installed (SystHist), and what newer updates have been released but not yet installed (SilentKnight).

Note also that you may find it worthwhile to disable automatic installation of macOS security updates, assuming you're diligent about checking for the release of new ones.

Oh just can it will you. These ‘evil’ Apple conspiracy theories are tiresome and boring. These are user-to-user forums and Apple support is not here. Apple isn’t ‘hiding’ anything. macOs Catalina 10.15.7 has had two updates since its release and it is also still at 10.15.7. Apple’s nomenclature is their business.

Your conspiracy accusations will get you ignored in the future by volunteers that would normally respond.

Just adding to this post and waiting for Apple to provide a Fix. My problem started last week when I wiped my HD and did a clean install of Catalina. Reinstalling the OS will not work unless you opt. security update. Using Chrome as the workaround until a Fix. Was ****** when I spent the time to do a clean install to make and this started and if the only way to fix was to reinstall again, I hope it's not the case!

I too was having the "problem repeatedly occurred" issue in Safari 14.1 (15611.1.21.161.5, 15611) after upgrading to Catalina. I also found that disabling JavaScript cleared the "problem" but wasn't an option. I went to the Macrumors link posted by @redvivi on Apr 29, 2021 8:20 AM in this discussion. In that thread I saw that on Tuesday, May 4 Apple released Safari 14.1 again but with a new build number. Since "system preferences" "software update" did not notify me of an update, I closed Safari and rebooted my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012). Now "system preferences" "software update" notified me of an update: Safari 14.1. I did the update. I am now on 14.1 (15611.1.21.161.7, 15611). Notice the new build number. The "problem repeatedly occurred" issue has now gone away.
