Hi cnsln86,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
We see from your post that you have an issue with seeing random spots appear in photos when there is a light source. We want to help.
It looks like you're experiencing something called "lens flare" and reflected spots in some of your photos. This occurs when there is a bright source of light shining through the lens and it's a pretty common occurrence in photography. Lens flare and reflected spots are typically more noticeable the brighter the light source is, and the darker the environment. This would explain why you have noticed it with street lights photographed at night time. However, it's possible to get lens flare even when it's not dark outside and there is a bright light like the sun.
Depending on the environment you're taking photos in lens flare and reflected spots may be difficult to avoid. We recommend moving the phone slightly to change the position of the light, or shield the lens with your hand. You can also find some helpful tips on taking photos with your iPhone in different lightening situations in these support articles:
Hope that helps. Reach out with any questions.
Best Regards.

Thanks for the reply.
We all know these images are heavily processed by software for optimal settings, and it should be able to fix these spots that are originally not there when the image was captured.
I hope there'll be improvements, because this is definitely not something I'd have expected from iPhone 12.
