Apple TV calibration error “unable to measure”

I have Apple TV 4K running TVOS 14.5

iPhone 12 Pro running iOS 14.5

When trying to use the new calibration feature it recognizes the phone and starts the calibration then after flashing red, blue, green, white it fails and says “unable to measure”

My TV is 1080p not 4K but others have successfully calibrated with similar.


Any suggestions on how to overcome the error?

You may not be holding the camera close enough or it is not covering the area indicated on the TV. I have a wall mounted TV in my bedroom that is set on the wall above where I can reach with my arm, I had to get a step stool to stand on in order to get my iPhone to be able to see the calibration box on my TV. If you fail, please try again it works. I successfully calibrated the 3 TVs I have, 2 are 4K, 1 is a 1080P model.

Experienced the same “unable to measure” several times. Able to resolve by setting the TV’s picture mode to cinema and then repeating the Apple TV calibration. It worked. I accepted the new Apple TV calibrated setting, and then set the TV’s picture mode back to “standard”. Assuming my TV’s screen may have been too bright during the initial calibration attempt.
