iOS 16 AirPlay isn’t working with HBO, and Disney app

Hi,

I’m experiencing issues with AirPlay from iPhone SE 3rd to Apple TV 3rd. YouTube works fine, screen mirroring too. What is not working is streaming to HBO MAX and Disney. Application seems to see Apple TV but simply when you start anything it gives error.

Its must be related to this update because on other phones with iOS 15.7 everything works fine.

Is this known bug ? Do you have same problem ?

I would like to let you know that update to 16.1 resolved issue. Disney and HBO max works on AirPlay via Apple TV 3rd. This was related to Apple bug not developer because they didn’t update application yet. I reported them the issue but looks like this wasn’t on DEV side.

I hope that this will last for a long time as possible.

Hello Nosacz,

Is your Apple TV up to date? The steps can be found here: Update your Apple TV - Apple Support

Update Apple TV (3rd generation)

  1. Go to Settings > General > Software Updates and select Update Software.
  2. If there's an update, download and install it.
  3. Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Don't disconnect or unplug your Apple TV until the update completes.

After the update downloads, your Apple TV will restart, prepare the update, and install it. When the update is complete, your Apple TV will automatically restart again.

Additionally, if you haven't yet, restart your Apple TV.

Cheers!

Have had the exact same thing happen. Right after updating to OS16 on all devices. Just last night my Hulu account dropped out of my list of viewing apps as well. Seeing the number of people with this problem recently leads me to believe it is the result of 1 of 2 possible conflicts:

  1. my Apple TV is no longer compatible with the latest OS updates. This is a definite possibility though when I asked a consultant at my Apple Store recently, they did not know of any conflict.

  1. These service providers have now blocked their content from being mirrored. This is also plausible as Hulu in particular has recently created a 2-tier subscription and I have the lower tier. In my opinion this doesn’t make much sense; I’m still paying for the subscription just moving to a bigger screen.

Hulu no longer appearing was Hulu’s choice, and was not the result of a device update or due to Apple stating the devices could no longer receive updates or were no longer supported.

As a data point, iOS screen mirroring still works fine with the old devices.

Also, Disney plus streaming works with iOS 15.7.

This indeed seems like a combination of the new iOS and some application-specific ways of implementing AirPlay streaming. It isn’t clear, but it seems like this could be resolved by an update to either iOS or the affected apps.

I haven’t updated to iOS 16.0.3 yet, would be interested to hear if anyone experiencing this problem has, and if the problem persists or not.

Hi,

thanks for your reply. Apple TV 3rd is not getting any more updates for long time.

Everything is fine with iPhone 7 and iPhone SE 1st generation that can stream AirPlay to Apple TV 3rd.

this has to be related to some sort of combination of Apple TV 3rd, Apple iPhone SE 3rd and ios 16. I tried 16.0.2 but this doesn’t helping at all. How to ask Apple to test such combination to double check what is wrong.

everything was fine till iOS 16
