iMessage on Mac won't send from phone number

I just got a new MacBook Air and I am having trouble with iMessages. Whenever I message someone, it is sent from my email instead of my phone number. I have signed out and back in multiple times, and on my account my phone number is there. I have gone to preferences portion and then selected iMessages and only my email shows up in "where I can be reached." What next?
