Facebook Messenger notification grouping not working on macbook air 2020

Hi, so I just received my macbook air 2020 today and for some reason, the notifications I get from the "messenger" app by Facebook isn't grouping in the notification center? I already tried toggling the different settings from automatic, on, and off and none of them were able to group the messages I was receiving. Only the last message sent to me will show up on my notification center. However, the notification grouping for my imessage is working perfectly fine (I even tried setting the notification grouping settings for Messenger to match imessage, but it didn't work either) , so I'm not sure if this is a facebook messenger issue or a macbook issue? I've tried re-installing the app and I've also tried restarting my computer as well, but to no avail. My old macbook air 2017 isn't having this issue either. Thank you!
