Rubber around the screen started melting

Is there a way to get the rubber seal replaced?

Mine started melting after 2 years only, I assume this is a material problem because laptops with 1/3 of the price don't melt in 2 years.

My old laptop Macbook pro 2012 didn't have this problem till now, how come the newer one started melting.

Apple say this is a cosmetic issue so it doesnt effect the performance of the screen, but it is still annoying that every time you open and fold the screen, a black rubber line is left on you laptop...

I've never seen this problem with any of our organization's thousands of Macs. If the rubber is leaving marks, then I suspect the rubber has been exposed to some type of solvent that is softening or "melting" the rubber.

Unfortunately in order to replace the rubber gasket involves replacing the whole Display Assembly since with the more recent laptops have extremely thin & fragile displays that cannot be repaired in any other way than full replacement. An Apple Display Assembly is extremely expensive.

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We understand your concerns with the cosmetic durability of your MacBook and would suggest having it inspected at one of our Genius Bars or through mailing it in for repair.
