The airpods are charging, but the case is not.

I am using the charger that came with the airpods that i purchased 3 full weeks ago- today from Target. The charging cable works when i plug in my phone, but it will not charge the case. The case is at 18% and has never charged, the AirPods are 100%. I have tried to charge the case with and without the Airpods inside. I have the second generation of Airpods with the Lightening charger. Model A2032 A2031 A1602 per the box. Can anyone tell me what i need to do to get the Charging case to charge?

Thank you for posting on Apple Communities. If your AirPods case is not showing that it is charging but the AirPods are charging when they are inside, it might indicate a software issue with the AirPods. You can try resetting the AirPods firmware to eliminate any possible software issues first.
