When will there be an update to the iPassword app for iOS 14.5? I'm unable to get to my passwords.

I too had this problem. I spent a day trying to recover my Ipassword data after the 14.5.1 update. Checked with Apple which was a dead end, surfed the internet for solutions and finally came up with one that worked for me. I downloaded the trial version of iMazing software which extracted the iPassword software/data which I was able to install on an old phone that I have.

I did have to go into my purchases in the App store with the old iphone 5 and download iPassword from there as it no longer shows up in the general app store list. Once I had iPassword on my iphone 5 iMazing populated the password data from the backup I made from my iphone XS. I downloaded the iMazing software from their website rather than on CNet or other aggregators of software online, seemed less sketchy to me, plus, there are tutorials on their website. . Anyway, the free version worked for me, I'm thinking of buying it just to support the company for saving me the headache of resetting all of those passwords.

Pretty unacceptable that an update would brick software that's so mission critical without warning. Maybe Apple could write into iOS updates a list of software that would become incompatible before the update is installed? Then users can make sure they have a backup of their data.

Dear Sir or madam

I beg to differ. The fact that the developer did not update the app is not Apple’s fault kf course, but:

  • They should warn of incompatible apps that could break BEFORE updating (they know perfectly well for instance when the app was last updated, or some other features, they did in the last for MacOSX for instance, and they get a 30% cut of all developer earnings, hiw about providing a good service?)
  • They should allow the owner of the phone get the bloody system (s)he wants, including going back to the previous one )which would solve this issue instantly.

Hi

I got similar issue while I upgraded my iPhoneX to 14.1 to 14.6.

I have two devices with the same iPassword (APP ID: id547904729).

Before I upgraded my iPhone X to 14.6, I did backup to iCloud Y& Dropbox under the same account.

I reload those data from iPhoneX to iPassword (APP ID: id547904729) at my iPad mini2 (iOS 12.5.4).

After iPhoneX upgrade, I cannot access my iPassword (APP ID: id547904729) anymore, event it is paid for free ad version.

Afterword, I found a similar (but different icon, with older version icon) iPassword (APP ID: 998953281).

It is exactly the same one, but registered with different developer and different icon.

I'd try to reload my data via iCloud and Dropbox, where I got the message that I am using the new APP, but the data comes from old one. I need to use recovery from Wi-Fi (I've tried, but never works) or iTunes.

I used iTunes to connect my iPad Mini2, and save the data from older version iPassword (APP ID: id547904729) to my PC, then I reconnect to my iPhoneX (installed the new iPassword (APP ID: 998953281) and upload the data from my PC to the new APP.

Then, restart the APP again with correct data inside.

Hope this will be useful for you guys with the same problem.

Oh this week was a technology nightmare like no other when i mindlessley updated my iPhone to ios15 (i was previously using 14.something) but thank you NING256 for your tips. I had an old iPad ios12.4.6 and used iMazing free version via my PC to retrieve over 6 years of passwords. What a relief. I had very old phone backups on my PC via itunes but did not want to restore from there as many more passwords had been collected since my last 2019 itunes backup.

Things were not so smooth in restoring via iMazing, as the the application asked for the "encrypted backup password" before it could create a copy of my old ipassword app data. I didn't ever recall creating a password and thought it was game over for me - my PC would not let me create an iphone backup locally, as it was all greyed out for some reason. In desperation I decided to backup my iPhone to the cloud (which you sorta said in Step 1 of your instructions but I foolishled decided to ignore) and after that iMazing stopped complaining (no longer asked for the encryption password) and dutifully backed up the old ipassword app data to my PC. That was a euphoric feeling, I knew I had a copy then.

The old iPad enabled me to restore ipassword exactly as you described in Step 7. And then iMazing quite happily restored the app data for the backup now copied on my PC. I skipped around the office all day, despite losing many hours of sleep.

So my big tip here is, if you have forgotten your itunes encryption backup password, then try an icloud backup on your phone before attempting to start with the app data backup using iMazing. Good luck people. And I will be looking for another password manager now, I just can't go back to this one on principle.
