How do I remove the status icons from appearing at all on the Apple Watch. It looks a lot cleaner if it’s only the watch face and no status icon.

You can't remove the status icons, they are part of the OS.
If you don't wish to see them, don't leave any apps active & don't actively use any of the watch's functions.
