Why can't I save or upload files, and none of the system preferences options can be selected now that I've upgraded to Big Sur?

This is from another thread of the same title. Still have problems relating to this. The only solution to this is to restart the entire laptop to get it working again. Probably happening twice a week. Mixture of not being able to select any options within a subsection of the preferences pane. I can tab through but can't use the mouse for selecting anything. Same with trackpad or magic mouse.

Other times when trying to upload a file from the finder window in chrome or safari, I can't select a file. Again, tabbing can get you so far.
