unable to add my aol account to the mail application

I am currently using an iMac running macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6 (yes older system). Recently, the aol account that I had on this computer stopped working. I have deleted the account, changed passwords on my aol account, pretty much everything. When trying to install the account in mail, I get an error that says unable to verify the account. What can I do to fix this and get my e-mail back? Of note, I am able to access my aol account through aol webmail.

I would start by contacting aol since they can't verify your account.
