I am trying to download from the app store on my macbook air and the wheel will not stop spinning

I am trying to download Microsoft Word from the app store and after you click to download, the little circle just keeps spinning. It doesn't prompt anything else. And it never times out. It has gone on as long as 15+ minutes. The computer has plenty of space and the internet connection isn't the problem...

Hi nikkiboy_95,

We understand you're having some issues downloading an app from the App Store, and we'd be happy to assist.

Is this only happening with Microsoft Word, or are other apps also having the same issue when downloading them? Which macOS version is installed? You can check that out in the Apple menu > About This Mac.

This page has some steps for the issue you've noted, please give them a try: If you can't download or update apps on your Mac

Additionally, if you're using a VPN, networking software, or security software, try temporarily disabling them fully, or removing them, just to fully rule that out.

You can also try this in a new user, just to see if it's system-wide or a user-specific issue: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Take care!

nikkiboy_95,

Thanks for the details. Which particular macOS Big Sur version are you on? You can check for that in the Apple menu > About This Mac, in the Overview tab here.

This particular page can be a great help with issues connecting to the App Store: If you can't connect to the App Store, iTunes Store, or other Apple services

If you hadn't had a chance yet, trying this out in a new Admin user on the Mac can be a great step to isolate it down. If needed, those steps are here: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

You may also try it out in safe mode. Info on this and how to load it up are here: Start up your Mac in safe mode

Cheers.

Hi there,

The macOS is Big Sur. Which after the update has caused all these issues.

I have tried to download other apps and have the same issue. The little icon just continues to circling around. If you click the update tab on the left side bar the page is blank. I have disconnected from the house WiFi and used my phone hot spot and that doesn’t make a difference either.

I also logged out of the App Store and now it will not let me login. I’m not sure if this is a known issue with Big Sur; or if this is just my own MacBook having these issues.

Thanks
