I was using my Apple trackpad with my 27" iMac and usually got 6 months on a set of AA batteries. Now that I have my M1 Mini, the batteries only seem to last a couple weeks. And this is with minimal use. I should add that it is only a problem when I put the computer in Sleep rather than powering down. Is there a fix to using Sleep?

Turn off the Magic Trackpad via the switch at the top of the trackpad and that will turn it off and cut the power when your not using it, There is probably some bug Apple need to fix where the M1 Chip isn't sending sleep commands to the peripherals and they are on 24/7. I always turn off mine before I go to sleep however I leave them on during the day and I get about 2 Months (Mine charge via Lighting as they are Magic Keyboard and Magic Track Pad 2).

Sleep is unnecessary for the low-power M1, disable it (Energy Preferences, check “Prevent…”).
I haven’t asked you do either. Instead, disable sleep and if no improvement, use the manual switch on the trackpad when it won’t be used for extended absences. Give it a try?
Disabling sleep doesn’t interfere with turning the monitors off on timer. As for batteries, they only wear out when in use but if it concerns you, the trackpad comes with an on/off switch.
Sorry, but that is the point of my post, that batteries aren’t lasting. If I shut down the Mac or turned off the trackpad, the problem wouldn’t exist. Why should use of an Apple product (the trackpad) be more complicated with a new M1 Mac than it was with a 5 year old iMac?
Sleep may be unnecessary but the batteries would still deplete quickly and I would be using energy to run the 2 monitors.
