My AirPods Pro don't automatically switch (even after update)

My AirPod pro (event after the update and set in setting on "automatically switching" both my Mac and iPhone ) don't switch -

If I am listening to music on my Phone Apple music and I go on my Mac to play a Youtube video, I have to MANUALLY switch the audio.

Can someone help🙏?

Good afternoon chris0407,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

It sounds like your AirPods Pro are not automatically switching between your iPhone and your Mac. We're happy to look into this with you.

Which iPhone model do you have?

You mentioned the update to iOS 14.5 on your iPhone. Did you update to macOS 11.3 on your computer as well?

Always restart devices after updating software.

On your iPhone, try unpairing your AirPods Pro, changing your settings back to defaults, and restarting your device.

Then pair the AirPods Pro and change the Bluetooth settings to your desired preference:

If the issue persists, please reply to this thread and we'll do our best to help you!

Take care.

Hi chris0407,

Thanks for that information. It sounds like the "AirPod Nearby" notification that you are seeing on your Mac means that automatic switching is enabled. When you hover over the notification with your mouse, you should should see a Connect button. Click Connect to confirm that you want your AirPods to switch to the MacBook Pro.

Connect your AirPods with your Mac

"If your AirPods are connected with your iPhone

If you already connected your AirPods with your iPhone, they’re ready to use with your Mac (your Mac must support Handoff and you must be signed in to iCloud using the same Apple ID).

  1. Open the AirPods case.
  2. Click the Volume control  in the menu bar on your Mac, then choose AirPods."

Take care.
