M1 macbook air gets stuck after migration at log in screen.

M1 macbook air starts in the home user partition but when I try to switch to the new user that holds my migrated files I sign in with my password and then the progress spinner just spins (5 hours at last count). So it appears stuck. I can log into my home partition but nothing I try gets me into the one created when I migrated from my time machine backup. What do I try next?
