Apple Watch series 6 without cellular

If I purchase the Apple Watch series 6 WITHOUT cellular, can I still text and call WITHOUT WiFi connected? For example, if I’m not home (traveling with my phone in my purse), can I use my watch to text or call? Trying to not have to dig out my phone every time it rings.

Yes you can,you just need to have your phone with you.
